The Santa Cruz Carnival in Tenerife is one of the biggest and most extravagant Carnivals on the planet, a whirling dervish of color, rhythm and sheer fun and enjoyment that one should not miss. Every February - March, depending on the year, at around two weeks before Ash Wednesday to the Sunday after it, the Santa Cruz Carnival is considered the second most famous Carnival in the world (2nd to Rio de Janeiro), and attracts hundreds of thousands of people, for its incredible spectacle, and, creativity, and partying. The peak night of the carnival attracts 200,000 people flooding the streets in costume, dancing to live music over the squares and streets. The Santa Cruz Carnival has been well known as a Fiesta of International Tourist Interest.
