Translated as 'Oasis of Dignity,' Wahat Al Karama serves as a living memorial that commemorates the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. It is a place where their legacy is forever honored, and their selfless acts of valor are remembered.
Designed by British artist Idris Khan, Wahat Al Karama encompasses various elements that evoke a profound sense of reverence. At its core lies the centerpiece of the memorial, a series of striking monolithic structures called the 'Martyrs' Memorial' or 'The Pavilion of Honor.' These monuments, composed of aluminum plates, symbolize solidarity, strength, and resilience. The plates, arranged in a way that resembles a folded flag, signify the sacrifice made by the fallen soldiers.
Adjacent to the memorial, the 'Memorial Plaza' offers a serene and contemplative space for visitors to reflect and pay their respects. The plaza features engraved panels that bear the names of the UAE soldiers who have lost their lives, immortalizing their legacy for future generations. The tranquil pool of water, known as the 'Reflecting Pool,' further adds to the serene ambiance of the site.
